640 × 512 thermal imaging clip-on with 50 mm objective
The HIKMICRO Thunder TQ50C 4.0 is a thermal imaging clip-on with a 640×512 sensor with 12 µm pixel pitch, an NETD of <12 mK and a 50 mm F1.0 objective. The stated detection range is 2,600 metres. This is the range at which an object can be detected, not the distance at which you can reliably identify game.
The clip-on has a magnification of 1×. The field of view is 8.8° × 7.0°, or 15.4 × 12.2 metres at 100 metres. The image appears on a 0.49-inch OLED display with 1920×1080 pixels. A brightness sensor adapts the display to the conditions. The device starts up in 2 seconds and has a redesigned power switch.
You focus the image with the focus knob. The magnetic lens cap protects the objective when you are not using the device. The quick menu has a menu lock, so settings do not change by accident. A virtual reticle and a built-in tilt sensor are included.
The housing has an IP67 rating and the operating temperature range runs from -30 to 55 °C. The Thunder TQ50C 4.0 has no laser rangefinder and no image stabilisation.
Key Features HIKMICRO Thunder TQ50C 4.0
- 640×512 sensor, 12 µm: gives a detailed thermal image for observing game.
- NETD <12 mK: shows small temperature differences.
- 50 mm F1.0 objective: combines reach with a fast lens.
- Detection range up to 2,600 metres: suited to scanning open terrain and fields at longer distances.
- Field of view 8.8° × 7.0°: 15.4 × 12.2 metres at 100 metres, for an overview of the terrain.
- 1920×1080 OLED display with brightness sensor: adapts the image brightness to the surroundings.
- Image Pro 4.0 and HSIS: image processing and a shutterless system for a steady thermal image.
- Built-in tilt sensor: registers the tilt of the device.
- Recoil activation: starts recordings based on recoil.
- Two replaceable, rechargeable batteries: you can carry a spare battery.
Thermal image quality
The 640×512 sensor with 12 µm pixels and the NETD of <12 mK form the basis of the thermal image. A lower NETD value generally indicates higher sensitivity to small temperature differences. With the 50 mm objective and the field of view of 8.8° × 7.0°, this clip-on is mainly of interest for observing game at somewhat longer distances. Image Pro 4.0 processes the image, and the shutterless HSIS system aims to interrupt the image as little as possible. The contrast is adjustable.
Operation
The redesigned power switch and the start-up time of 2 seconds make the device ready for use quickly. You adjust settings via the quick menu. The menu lock prevents them from changing unintentionally. You focus the image with the focus knob.
Photos, videos and app
The Thunder TQ50C 4.0 can record photos and videos, including recordings triggered by recoil. Via Wi-Fi and the HIKMICRO Sight app you connect the device to a smartphone.
Battery and operating time
The clip-on runs on two replaceable, rechargeable batteries. With a spare battery in your bag you can keep going during a long stand. The device withstands a humidity of 90% or less.
