640×512 thermal clip-on with 50 mm lens and laser rangefinder
The HIKMICRO Thunder TQ50CL 4.0 is a thermal imaging clip-on with a 640×512 sensor at 12 μm pixel pitch, an NETD of <12 mK and a 50 mm F1.0 lens. The stated detection range is 2,600 meters. That makes it a good fit for observing game at longer distances in open terrain and when scanning fields.
The CL in the model name stands for clip-on with laser rangefinder. The built-in laser rangefinder measures up to 1,200 meters, so you do not need a separate device for ranging. The rangefinder's measuring range is separate from the detection range of the thermal system. The field of view is 8.8° × 7.0°, or 15.4 × 12.2 meters at 100 meters. Magnification is 1×.
The image is shown on a 0.49-inch OLED display with 1920×1080 pixels. A brightness sensor adapts the display to the surroundings. The unit starts up in 2 seconds and has a redesigned power switch, a focus knob and a magnetic lens cap. The quick menu can be customized and the menu can be locked, so settings do not change by accident.
Image Pro 4.0 image processing and the Shutterless System (HSIS) contribute to the image quality. The Thunder TQ50CL 4.0 can be used at dusk and for observation at night. It has a built-in tilt sensor and a virtual reticle.
Key Features HIKMICRO Thunder TQ50CL 4.0
- 640×512 sensor with 12 μm pixel pitch: gives a thermal image with enough detail to recognize game.
- NETD <12 mK: high thermal sensitivity, so small temperature differences become visible.
- 50 mm F1.0 lens: a fast lens for observation at longer distances.
- Detection range up to 2,600 meters: this is not automatically the distance at which you can reliably identify game.
- Built-in laser rangefinder up to 1,200 meters: determines the distance to the game without an extra device.
- 0.49-inch OLED display, 1920×1080: with a brightness sensor so the display suits the ambient light.
- Image Pro 4.0 and Shutterless System (HSIS): official image features of the Thunder 4.0 series.
- Recoil activation: photo and video recording can start based on recoil.
- Built-in tilt sensor and virtual reticle: additional aids during use.
- IP67 and operating temperature of -30 to 55 °C: resistant to rain and dust throughout the hunting season.
Operation and ease of use
The redesigned power switch and the focus knob make for clear, simple operation. With the customizable quick menu you quickly reach the settings you use most. The menu lock prevents settings from changing by accident while you are in the field. The magnetic lens cap stays attached to the unit when you open it. Contrast is adjustable.
Battery and runtime
The Thunder TQ50CL 4.0 runs on 2 replaceable, rechargeable batteries. This lets you carry a spare battery for longer evenings in the field.
Photos, videos and app
The unit takes photos and videos, including recording triggered by recoil. Recordings are kept in the local album. Via Wi-Fi you connect it to the HIKMICRO Sight app on your smartphone.
